We are always proud to support organisations that make a genuine difference in our local community. One of our recent projects involved installing a complete high heat retention electric heating system for The House of Hope in Edinburgh.

This was a project that meant far more than simply upgrading heating. It was about helping create a warm, welcoming and reliable environment for a charity that does great work.

The House of Hope (registered charity SC052644) needed more efficient heating.

About The House of Hope

The House of Hope is Scotland’s first dedicated breast cancer wellbeing and support centre. It was created to support the thousands of people diagnosed with breast cancer across Scotland each year.

The centre officially opened its doors in the summer of 2025 after a huge amount of dedication and effort from its team and volunteers.  The vision was to provide a safe, calm and supportive space for individuals navigating incredibly difficult circumstances.

As with many charities, the House of Hope relies heavily on funding and support from its incredible “Army of Hope” through fundraising events, corporate sponsorship and donated time and skills.  It is a community-driven initiative built on compassion and determination.

How we became involved

We were contacted by House of Hope, who reached out to our team after seeing some of the charity work we have carried out and hearing about our modern storage heating installations.  They were liaising with CARES (the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme) and Business Energy Scotland to explore funding options to support energy efficiency and help lower operational costs.  For charities, this type of support can be vital in allowing them to operate more effectively while keeping running costs under control.

Specifying the right heating system

Our Project Manager, Chris, attended site to meet Hazel, the House Manager, who provided the building specification and outlined the requirements of the space.  Heating in a building such as this must be consistent, controllable and reliable.  It needs to create comfort without being complicated to operate.

For a building that welcomes visitors seeking support and wellbeing, reliability was absolutely essential.  After a detailed assessment, we selected Dimplex Quantum high heat retention storage heaters as our recommended solution.  The Quantum range represents one of the most advanced electric storage heating solutions currently available.  Unlike older style storage heaters, Quantum units use highly insulated cores that retain heat far more effectively.  They charge intelligently, based on predicted room usage and heat demand, and release warmth in a controlled and responsive way through built-in fan assistance.  This makes them significantly more efficient and far more comfortable than traditional systems.

Managing budget and funding constraints

We designed and quoted for the installation of twenty-four Dimplex Quantum high heat retention storage heaters throughout the property.  As with most charitable projects, budget was a key consideration.

We were delighted that Dimplex supported the project by kindly donating one storage heater along with two Wi-Fi control hubs.

This contribution made a meaningful difference in helping the project remain within the available funding while still delivering a high-quality heating solution.

Careful planning was required to align the works with grant processes and financial constraints, ensuring the installation could move forward without compromising standards.

Delivering the installation

To minimise disruption to the charity, we agreed that the best time to carry out the installation would be just before Christmas, while the House of Hope was closed for the festive break.  The goal was ambitious – we planned to complete the full installation in a single day so that the building would be ready to reopen immediately after the holidays. We mobilised a team of six engineers on the day of the installation.  It was a tough schedule!  Hazel and her team kept everyone well supplied with tea and biscuits, and our engineers worked throughout the day to ensure the project stayed on track.  By the end of the day, the installation phase was successfully completed.

Smart control and commissioning

We returned the following day to fully commission the system and pair all heaters with the Dimplex Home Control app via the Wi-Fi hubs.  This integration allows Hazel and her team to manage heating schedules remotely, monitor temperatures and adjust easily from a smartphone or tablet.  The system can be programmed to ensure rooms are warm when required and running efficiently when not in use.  This level of smart control helps reduce unnecessary energy consumption, lowers electricity bills and gives the charity confidence that the environment remains comfortable for visitors.

The Result

The finished result is a warm, welcoming and energy-efficient building that reflects the care and compassion at the heart of the House of Hope.  The Quantum heaters will provide steady, controllable warmth with improved heat retention and reduced reliance on peak-rate electricity.  They offer a clean, modern appearance and simple digital controls, creating a much more user-friendly system compared to older electric heating solutions.

Importantly, the centre now benefits from a dependable heating system that supports its long-term sustainability.  Reduced running costs, improved comfort and easier programming all contribute to a better environment for the team and for the individuals who attend the House of Hope.

A project that we are truly proud of

This project brought together volunteers, suppliers and our engineering team to deliver something meaningful under tight time and budget constraints.

Every member of our team worked incredibly hard to ensure the installation was completed to the highest standard and within the required timeframe.  Being able to support an organisation like the House of Hope is something we are genuinely proud of.

Creating a warm and comfortable space may seem like a small part of the bigger picture, but for the people who walk through those doors, it makes a real difference.
